Plot to Page and Simple Pleasures project

Brief

Design two graphics that have the feel of chalk boards outside of pubs and coffee shops in the summer. From text and images supplied create an a4 folded to a5 leaflet and a book review postcard. Supply the graphics in different formats/sizes for website use and as bookshelf display headers.

Rationale

Colours were chosen that are reminiscent of ice-cream, deckchairs and beach huts. To me the whole leaflet looks a bit like Battenberg cake. Graphic text font was chosen by the client as similar to pub chalk boards. I added some filters to give it that chalky texture and not quite perfect lines. I added the border to make it look like it was in a wooden frame, with the same border added to the photos and some of the text.

Production

Just 100 printed on semi-gloss paper. Headers were printed in-house and mounted on Foamex board.

Follow-up work

This was updated for the following year.
